On August 1, 2008 a class action lawsuit regarding Avandia was filed in Canada against the manufacturers of the diabetes drug, GlaxoSmithKline.
The Avandia class action lawsuit alleges that users weren’t sufficiently alerted to its risks.
According to Canada.com, The suit was filed this week at Court of Queen’s Bench in Regina on behalf of the estate of a 75-year-old Regina woman, who died in May of a heart attack. The action, filed by Regina lawyer Tony Merchant, is brought on the plaintiff’s behalf and on behalf of any other members of the proposed class action — all Canadians who took Avandia and suffered serious medical problems or their survivors.
A spokesperson for GlaxoSmithKline stated, “GlaxoSmithKline continues to support Avandia as safe and effective when used appropriately.”
